From my Introduction to Soul Among the Stars [pending publication with Collective Ink Books, UK]
Soul, as Jung reminded us, is not confined to the human sphere, a truth that medievalists, alchemists, poets, mystics, shamans, astrologers and ancient cultures have always known, yet we seem to have forgotten. For them the Cosmos was and is a ‘comm-unity’, and each star and world a unique being with a part to play in the ‘Great Dance’.
I am myself a science graduate and studied astronomy as part of a university science degree. But while science has led to wondrous discoveries and useful inventions in many fields, for the most it has promoted detached objectivity over relatedness, analysis over love and understanding, fact over truth, materialistic reductionism over wholism as the mirroring of soul and matter, control and exploitation over respect and care for the sacred lives of our fellow beings. The very meaning and nature of science, in other words, perhaps needs to evolve to become inclusive of the 'truth of love' as a necessary complement to the scientific love of truth.
As I see it, the challenge for science is to arrive at a place where it reunites with ousted soul in order to birth a new wholism, since science without soul is arrogant, deluded, dangerous, self-defeating and spiritually lost. While myth is grounded in a sense of sacred relationship with the Cosmos, a science based on the decrepit ‘myth of objectivity’ has no place for a love of the Cosmos as ‘family’. Indeed, perhaps the reason that science has failed to come up with a unifying Theory of Everything is that love is excluded from scientific discourse. Conversely though, contemporary myth needs to embrace science as an integral facet of contemporary life and consciousness, hence the rise of the science fiction genre as a creative bridge between science, the mythic imagination and our quest for transcendence.
In much science fiction, voyages into the Cosmos are metaphors for our inner quest for identity, purpose and meaning. Mirroring our own psyche, there is order, law and beauty throughout the Cosmos, but there is also violence, emptiness and chaos. These, too, we must enter and transform into something bearable. We must, in other words, survive and transcend our own destructive conflicts before we can partake in a rebirth of consciousness from which may emerge the wholistic interweaving of all fields of experience and knowledge. For this profound shift of consciousness to unfold, we must befriend our inner Cosmos, the dazzling darkness of our paradoxical selves.
This new Cosmic wholism has the potential to recreate us as a mythic ‘Net of Indra’, a web of relations in which each interconnected gem is equally valued and reflective of the beauty of fellow gems within the interwoven net. If we are ever to mend our struggling world, we need to outgrow an outmoded paradigm that stems from what I call ‘homocentric’ consciousness, the self-serving and hubristic belief that we humans are the most valuable species on our world - that we are the sole centre for whose benefit all else exists and around which everything else revolves.
As an aside comment, since this new myth is about ’soul’ rather than spirit, spirit is mentioned mainly in the context of its mirror relationship with matter. Hence for those who may be tempted to view these Messages as purely ‘spiritual’, as James Hillman reminds us, soul gravitates to depth rather than to the rarified atmosphere of spiritual heights. For millennia we’ve been conditioned to view the stars as ‘Above’ us; nonetheless they are equally at home beneath our feet, given that the Cosmos surrounds us on all sides, such that our world is like a fragile bubble maternally enfolded in a vast, celestial ocean.
Because these Messages are filtered through my own perception, experience, understanding and loves, they bear a unique stamp that is both personal and universal. As well, I’m not only the Ancient Starseeders’ Oracle but also an active participant in this dynamic Cosmos, through my own shamanic journeying and work. Accordingly, I turn up in the Temple of the Cosmic Grail; I drum for the Star Children on Mars, before joining them for a kayaking expedition on the methane lakes of Saturn’s moon, Titan. Shamanism is, after all, a twin-edged sword, the sharp edge of which is the rim of the Abyss that plunges the shaman into both agony and ecstasy.
In the end, what matters most to me is ’serving the vision’ and allowing others to make of it what they will, given that midwifing a new myth means surrendering to what flows through those of us who are midwives and vessels of such transcendence. Use these Messages, then, as you will. Some may find them helpful as a focus for meditation and reflection; some may experience light shed upon their own life path, while others may gain insight into the basic ‘Way’ of life that has been best expounded through the ancient Chinese wisdom of Tao. Although much of this book will undoubtedly be of particular interest to those involved with the phenomena of ‘Star Children’, ‘hybrids’ and ‘channelled’ messages, my intuition is that it is ‘intended’ for all who are seeking to be wiser, more altruistic and compassionate beings, ready to serve and help heal our wounded World - and open to embracing the fullness of life and the wonder of a living Cosmos that is our shared Home.
